These look so yummy! I’m thinking they’d make a great addition to a Fourth of July cookout with some red, white and blue sprinkles. So cute. After the first sewing project I did which turned out to be very difficult, I decided to try something much easier. This is the first skirt I made and although the stitching along the zipper is a little crooked I am really happy with it. The photo of me is actually from a few months ago (hence the brown hair). I was going through saved drafts that I never posted and this photo was one of them. I love how simple and lightweight the skirt is and it is perfect for summer.

This time last year I was surrounded by 50 or so young, talented, and inspiring artists at a summer program at School of Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Mass. One of the projects was to create wearable art using recycled materials. I made this dress using vinyl and plastic book binding.

But the best part? I then got to put the dress through a printing press and made a print with it, there’s a photo after the jump. The prints in the background of the photos are of other students wearable art. I have so many photos from the program that I was going through today and I think I might just post a few more on the blog.

Just a little montage of photos from some of the recent blog posts of my favorite bloggers since I haven’t felt much like taking my own photos and would rather spend hours looking at the inspiring photos of other bloggers. I’m lovin’ shades of green for the early summer months.

Coming home from my first year away from college I really learned to appreciate my own room. The blue palette was a relaxing change from the orange clad walls of my dorm room and the first thing I did when I came home was spend the day cuddled up in my bed with a book and my dog, Louie. I thought I’d share some photos just for fun.

About two years ago I received a sewing machine from my parents and enrolled in some sewing classes but didn’t really make anything wearable. Last year for my senior project I decided to take the next step and learn how to use patterns and alter thrifted pieces.

I had planned to blog about my progress but that fell through very early on and I never ended up doing so. So I’ll posting about it now, this was the my first project and I have to say; learning how to sew is a lot more complicated then I had originally thought it would be.

I bought a simple dress pattern and a sheer fabric that looked pretty but I eventually found out it was extremely hard to work with, it was hard to cut, it was hard to sew, and it was impossible to hem. By the time I actually finished it, it no longer actually fit because I had gained 15 lbs so I had my friend Sarah model it for me.

Learning how to sew was frustrating and difficult but I’m glad I learned because even though I am still a beginner it opens up the possibilities to create my own designs, clothing and refashion thrifted pieces.

I think I will continue posting my progress with sewing especially since summer is approaching and I’ll have time to experiment.

During finals week, in the mist of long study sessions and packing, Victoria and I had a little rendez-vous involving chinese food (first photo), thrift stores, garish sweaters, obnoxiously bright jackets and impromptu runways walks (rest of photos). After a few hours, a couple friends joined us and we browsed the mug section. In case you were wondering I did end up buying that awesomely ugly jacket and some pretty cool mugs that Victoria envied.  The day was filled with lots of laughs and silly jokes which was a great escape from all the studying I did the following day.

I just bought a bright shade of lipstick called spellbound by covergirl and I’m obsessed. The color is eye-catching and is an easy way to brighten up my day. If anyone was ever curious, this is my friend Victoria that I’ve mentioned in past posts. This past year she’s taken the majority of the photos of my outfits and we’ve had some serious laughs over it (mainly when joggers pass by or at my awkward poses.) I wasn’t planning on photographing this outfit but we were outside trying to study and were already taking silly photos of ourselves on her mac and it was just too pretty not to. In the last photo Victoria told me to ‘look like I was blogging,’ but I’m pretty positive I was actually watching cat videos; not nearly as cool..

The shoulder pads on this jacket are massive, even bigger than they appear in the photos. Victoria and I have been waiting since October to wear these jackets out in public and this past Saturday finally presented the opportunity in the form of an 80′s theme party. Everyone showed up in their best neon workout gear and other equally awesome finds from Goodwill and just jammed out to some awesome 80′s music. The DJ even dedicated the last song of the night to me and a friend.

All in all it was a great night; definitely worth the wait.

certain songs portray an image and listening to this one just gets me excited for the long days of summer sunshine.
